Why Kristen Stewart's premiere rocked Cannes

Why Kristen Stewart's premiere rocked

CANNES, France — They saved the best for last on the Cannes red carpet. Clouds of Sils Maria had everything you could dream about for a Cannes Film Festival world premiere. (And it was followed by a celebration for the 20th anniversary of Pulp Fiction, which made for more fun.)

Here's why Sils Maria allowed the festival to make a grand exit on the last night of film competition.

Kristen Stewart

The star was late to Cannes, jetting in after the cast and director Olivier Assayas had already done their initial photocall and press conference.

But what an entrance for Stewart with shocking red hair matching the grand carpet and an audacious pant suit amid a sea of flowing gowns. Stewart, who plays a headstrong assistant to a major movie star in the film, then kicked off her heels and walked into the Palais des Festivals in her bare feet. Heaven.

She was supported by American co-star Chloe Grace Moretz, who wore a playful feathered creation to the premiere.

Kristen Stewart Gets Cast in an Action Comedy and an Indie Drama All in the Same Day

Kristen Stewart Gets Cast in an Action Comedy and an Indie Drama All in the Same Day

Kristen Stewart's a busy girl. Today alone-while you were downing your first cup of coffee, or furiously finishing up your math homework, or even still hitting your snooze button (hey, we do it too)-she snagged roles in two super buzzy indie flicks. Impressive, especially since it's a Monday and Mondays are universally accepted as The Worst.

First up, she'll be reuniting with her Adventureland costar Jesse Eisenberg on American Ultra, an action comedy from the director of Project X. Details are vague (the movie won't begin filming until next April!), but what we do know is that Kristen will play Jesse's girlfriend who's awesomely named Phoebe (Kristen totally looks like a Phoebe, no?) and that they'll be involved in a government conspiracy of sorts. And that it will be funny because: comedy!

The flick's producer told The Hollywood Reporter, "Simply put, American Ultra will be the most fun you can possibly have in a movie theater without the use of drugs, fireworks, or canola oil." Sounds like...fun?

Kristen's also joining the cast of Anesthesia, a drama presumably about loss of consciousness, but that's supposition based purely on the title. Literally nothing is known about the project except that it's drawn lots of comparisons to Dead Poets Society, but that's based on the one-sentence announcement from the movie studio ("a group of New Yorkers whose lives are touched by the same philosophy professor"), so don't start shaking your fist in the air and chanting "O Captain, My Captain" just yet.

Kristen Stewart’s Grumpy Face Is an Act

Kristen Stewart’s Grumpy Face Is an Act

Kristen Stewart does a good job trying to convince us that she's a malcontent with her sullen expressions, but we know otherwise.

How? Well, the 23-year-old also happens to be one of the more generous celebs in Hollywood, and no real grinch could be so caring about others.

The latest example appeared in a New York Times piece on producer Harvey Weinstein, which noted that the studio head once persuaded Stewart to accept an offer from a Middle Eastern prince to meet with him in exchange for a large donation to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

"How much?" Ms. Stewart asked, according to Mr. Weinstein,

He checked with the prince, who proposed a figure, which Mr. Weinstein promptly raised to $500,000.

The money was delivered in advance, in cash, Mr. Weinstein said.
